Présentation de l'artiste

 

Maxime Chanson (né en 1983, vit et travaille à Paris) développe depuis 2010 un singulier projet qui consiste à analyser les démarches d’artistes. La démarche artistique, objet central de son investigation, résulte selon lui de l’action conjuguée d’un « Moteur », ce qui pousse l’artiste à créer, et d’un « Moyen », le mode opératoire qu’il utilise. Dès 2011, dans son livre 600 démarches d’artistes [1] il applique cette méthodologie aux artistes reconnus.

Pour la JCE ART BIENNALE, Maxime Chanson propose de l’appliquer à ses co-exposants. L’œuvre synthétisant l’ensemble de ses analyses sera présentée sur un dispositif de monstration nomade, comme l’événement. Cette exposition sera aussi l’occasion de dévoiler à un public international le livre 700 Artists' Processes [2], version traduite et augmentée de ce que Maxime Chanson considère comme l’œuvre inaugurale de sa pratique artistique actuelle.

Maxime Chanson (b. 1983, lives and works in Paris) has, since 2010, been developing a singular project that consists of analyzing the activity of other artists. He sees the artistic process – his core area of investigation – as arising from the combined action of a “Motor” (what drives an artist to create) and a “Means” (the modus operandi they employ). In 2011, he applied this methodology to recognised artists in his book 600 démarches d’artistes [1]. 

For the JCE ART BIENNIAL, Maxime Chanson has chosen to apply the methodology to his fellow exhibitors. The work synthesizing his analyses will be presented on an exhibition apparatus which, like the event itself, will be nomadic. Also to be unveiled during the exhibition, in its international debut, is his book 700 Artists’ Processes [2], the translated and extended edition of what Maxime Chanson identifies as the inaugural work in his current artistic practice.
