Artist presentation
The artist's personal and artistic pursuit focuses on the relationship between man and nature. She achieves this through the animal as mirror and embodiment of an intimate, primordial dimension of mankind. Faithful to a scientific approach, and in particular the science of anthropology, Federica Cogo researches her subjects painstakingly, as is the case in this recent work.
Untitled #1 is the documentation of an actual event, filmed by an ordinary person and sourced through popular web-based channels. Yet it is deprived of its realism and stylised through the use of animation (whereby each frame is hand-drawn by the artist), with a playful and ironic result. However, this playfulness profoundly unsettles the viewers’ initial expectations, making them unwilling witnesses to a seemingly endless act of torture. In its quiet and at times disturbing simplicity, the work aims to show mankind to mankind.

La ricerca artistica e personale dell'artista, da sempre si incentra sull'uomo e la sua natura. E lo fa servendosi dell'animale, specchio di una dimensione intima e profonda dell'uomo. Con un’approccio quasi antropologico e scientifico, Federica Cogo prende sempre in esame documenti e libri, e lo fa anche in questo video, scelto e rielaborato dalle fonti virtuali popolari.
Untitled #1, diventa così documentazione effettiva di un fatto avvenuto realmente (filmato da una persona qualunque), elaborata attraverso una scelta tecnica di animazione (fotogramma disegnato) che si trasforma in intervento ironico e giocoso. Così "giocoso" che può destabilizzare lo spettatore, per le aspettative iniziali da "cartone animato" e per la conseguente tortura che sembra non finire. Il suo obbiettivo è quello di mostrare in silenzio l'uomo all'uomo.
