A mission : supporting young artists on a European scale

 

In 2000, as an extension of the Salon de Montrouge founded in 1955, the city of Montrouge furthered its commitment to discovering and supporting emerging artists by setting up a European network in order to encourage partner cities to support their countries’ young artists.

The partner cities of the network pledge to:
– host a stop of the JCE | Jeune Création Européenne Biennale 2013 / 2015
– supply artists with residency studios for the duration of the Biennale.

Each partner country provides the JCE with its expertise in the field of emerging art by naming an artistic curator in charge of singling out new talents. In France, based on the tremendous prospection process carried out by the Salon de Montrouge, the French artists selected for the JCE | Jeune Création Européenne Biennale are: Maxime Chanson, Éponine Momenceau and Henrik Potter (laureates of the Salon de Montrouge 2012) and Nøne Futbol Club, Justine Pluvinage and Pierre Seinturier (laureates of the Salon de Montrouge 2013).

Quite naturally, the city of Montrouge is hosting the first stop of the JCE Biennale 2013 / 2015, with Yann Toma as the artist guest of honor. For the opening of the JCE Biennale on October 16th 2013 in Montrouge, he will create a special lighting of Le Beffroi which will be visible from Paris.

On the day of the vernissage, an international jury will convene to give out the JCE awards – Crédit Agricole grants to the 3 artists it will have singled out. The jury will be presided over by Marc Partouche, Director of the prestigious Académie royale des beaux-arts de Bruxelles.

For the occasion, Marc Partouche has selected 5 young Belgian artists to represent Belgium as a “guest country” of the JCE.
