IN ART , EUROPE HAS NO BORDERS

The JCE was conceived in 2000 in the spirit of the Erasmus program. Its aim is to support the emerging generation in contemporary art at a global level. Our ambition today is to afford this generation of artists an intercultural springboard of choice; to encourage their promotion, circulation and encounters with the public and professionals.
Our specificity: a focus on European cities strongly committed to supporting young emerging creation. Each of the partner cities appoints an artistic curator who posts a nationwide call for applications open to all young artists.

They then centralize the selection and organize the exhibition in their country.
The six artists selected in each of the partner countries will thus have the opportunity of discovering other creative hubs, organizing their first international exhibition, networking with art world professionals, winning prizes and finally, accessing the grants and residencies of the JCE network.
This year, JCE welcomes four new partners: the city of Como in Italy, the city of Figueres in Spain, the city of Maastricht in the Netherlands and the city of Brussels in Belgium.
The selection process of the 54 artists of the JCE 2013/2015 is therefore carried out from an ever-widening base of art schools and institutions, at the national and European level. Over 6000 applications were received in the 9 partner countries for this selection.

I would also like to welcome the President of the jury, Mr. Marc Partouche of the Académie royale des beaux-arts in Belgium and the Guest of honor of the JCE 2013/2015, the French artist Yann Toma, who will unveil an exceptional piece driven by artistic energy…

For its first stop in Montrouge, the Biennale will give out the “Grand Prix JCE – Bourse Crédit Agricole” to the most promising artists. The 3 winners of this edition, selected by an international jury, will present a solo show in Brussels at the prestigious Académie royale des beaux-arts. This magnificent school, housed in an incredible building,
is the oldest in Europe (1711) and over half its students come from all over Europe.
