The series consists of 390 images of skies that Flávio Nuno Joaquim collected during roughly three months, until the 21.12.2012.

 A close relationship with the "gaze at the above" and metaphorically with the ideas of the ​​unknown and of choice, establishes a temporal relationship between the present and the future. This daily and systematic gaze makes the author resort to this collection of mobile pictures, emphasizing the possibility of the unexpected and therefore the need for constant alertness, as this medium is itself a vehicle for the dissemination of contemporary information and image. 

21.12.2012 - The End that didn't End has a clear proximity with the circulation of information and with the performativity of words. The belief in an apocalyptic date - 21.12.2012 (as seemingly predicted by the Mayan calendar) and its prophetic character reveals the orthogonal intersection between anthropology / theory and the relation of men with the sky. These photos are no more than the evocation of the end of a cycle, of an end that does not happen. A cycle trying to close itself by its dual circularity and which therefore turns out to be open. The 390 images are a perfect circle to which is added its half, 260 (13x20) + 130, thus returning to the horizontal axis, the zero degree where nothing happened. The pieces are materialized in a file system, where the images are placed vertically as though they were stored in a drawer.

There is almost a “secret side”, enhanced by the fact that the piece is very similar to a black box, and thus the place where the information is contained in the perspective of the imminent possibility of chaos. In this sense the piece comprises instructions for use: "Photo recorder please open" and "Please put gloves | Gently open the box | Take your time | Yours to Discover".

 

 

 

 

 

Série constituída por 390 imagens de céus recolhidas durante sensivelmente três meses com término a 21.12.2012.

Numa estreita relação com o "olhar para cima"e metaforicamente com a ideia de desconhecido e de escolha, estabelece uma relação temporal entre presente e futuro. Esse olhar quotidiano e sistemático faz com que o autor recorra ao telemóvel nessa recolha de imagens, enfatizando desta forma a possibilidade do inesperado e consequentemente o constante grau de alerta, assim como esse meio é em si mesmo um veículo contemporâneo de difusão de imagem e informação.

21.12.2012 - The End that didn't End tem uma clara proximidade com a difusão da informação e com a performatividade da palavra. A crença apocalíptica numa data – 21.12.2012 (o calendário maia apontava para um final) e todo o carácter profético e revelador cruzam-se nessa ortogonalidade – antropo/ teo, nessa relação do homem com o céu. Estas fotografias são não mais que a evocação a um fim de ciclo, um fim que não acontece. Um ciclo que se tenta fechar pela sua dupla circularidade e por isso mesmo acaba por ficar aberto. As 390 imagens são um círculo perfeito ao qual se adicionou a sua metade, ou seja, 260 (13x20) + 130, voltando assim ao eixo horizontal, ao grau zero, onde nada aconteceu.

A peça materializa-se num sistema de arquivo, onde as imagens se encontram dispostas verticalmente como se estivessem guardadas numa gaveta. Há quase um lado de segredo, reforçado ainda pelo facto da peça ser muito semelhante a uma caixa-negra, e por isso o lugar onde está contida toda a informação caso a possibilidade de caos fosse iminente, neste sentido a peça dispõe de instruções para o seu manuseamento: "Photo recorder please open" e "Please pu the gloves on | Gently open the box | Take your time | Yours to Discover".
