Artist's presentation

 

Jenny Lindblom combines paintings, collages and objects into broken up mini-narratives, exploring the limitations as well as the possibilities of representation, expression and identity. Sources and references range from towel origami to Lindsay Lohan, from sex toys to team building strategies, from 1990s new age electronica to John Keats – and are woven together by means of repetition, association and fragmentation. In dialogue with the growing, omnipresent and dictating aestheticization of reality, Lindblom focuses attention on those moments when our private selves shine through our social selves, on the collision between the person we consider ourselves to be, and the one we want other people to see. 

Though aspiring for austerity and gravity, the works often have an undercurrent of subtle humour which undermines and obfuscates that perspective.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jenny Lindblom combineert schilderijen, collages en objecten tot gebroken mini-narratieven, waarin ze zowel de grenzen als de mogelijkheden van representatie, expressie en identiteit onderzoekt. Haar bronnen en referenties lopen uiteen van handdoek-origami tot Lindsay Lohan, van sex toys tot team building strategieën en van 90’s new age elektronica tot John Keats. Deze zijn verweven door middel van herhaling, associatie en fragmentatie.

Als onderdeel van een dialoog met het alomtegenwoordige en de groeiende, dicterende esthetisering van ons dagelijkse leven, zoemt Lindblom in op juist die momenten wanneer onze privé-zelf doorschijnt door onze sociale zelf; wanneer de persoon die we denken te zijn botst met de persoon waarvan we willen dat anderen ons zien.

Ook al streven de werken naar een sobere en zware toon, hebben ze vaak een ondertoon van subtiele humor die dit perspectief ondermijnen en vertroebelen.
