My work proposes an approach to the complementary relation between pictorial and architectonic languages, using colour as groundwork in the creative process and a fundamental composition element that transforms spaces, their representations and perceptive results. Besides an appropriation of architectonic language to pictorial space, transforming it in something deconstructed, fictional and dysfunctional, I’m interested in an expanded field of painting, where new possibilities of interaction between painting and the architectonic space, through colour, are explored. Moreover, the distension of painting to real space causes new preoccupations with the relation between colour and space and between the spectator and the perceived work, a relation that can be more physical and interactive.
Colour entropy, reflected in the concepts of order, chaos, dynamics, flow, balance and composition inherent to chromatic relations, should be used within the interaction and mutuality between pictorial and architectonic languages.
In this process, there is the intention to create a dialogue between paintings with architectonic representations; pictorial objects with an architectonic dimension, like constructions that we can physically explore; and painting made directly in architectonic space or exhibition room, where colour can work as a skin of the construction that assumes autonomy from its structure and functionality. It is a fundamental objective to explore, experiment and analyse the transformative potential of colour in these projects.
On the other hand, there is an interest in the formal and aesthetical dimension of the architectonic language and the represented constructions, being wrong and impossible, intend to question what makes us feel at home, protected and sheltered. The house arises, here, as a paradigmatic example of the approach to place, to the intimate, personal and emotional experience of inhabiting, occupying and using.
O meu trabalho propõe uma aproximação ao modo como as linguagens pictórica e arquitectónica se podem contaminar e potenciar mutuamente através da cor, esta enquanto elemento fundamental de composição, determinante no processo criativo e capaz de transformar significativamente o espaço, as suas representações e resultados perceptivos. A apropriação da linguagem arquitectónica para o espaço pictórico e uma manipulação privilegiada das relações cromáticas surgem, assim, como forma de desenhar e estruturar a paisagem – uma paisagem construída, intervencionada e humanizada. Interessa-me, aliás, o modo como a paisagem se submete à arquitetura, ou como esta a projeta, caracteriza e transforma. Para além desse interesse pela vertente formal e estética da linguagem arquitectónica, que se torna disfuncional, desconstruída e ficcional, interessa-me explorar um campo expandido da pintura, onde novas possibilidades de interação entre a pintura e o espaço arquitectónico, através da cor, são exploradas.
Aliás, a distensão da pintura para o espaço real provoca novas preocupações com a relação entre a cor e o espaço e entre o espectador e a obra, uma relação que pode ser mais física e interativa.
Neste processo, há a intenção de criar um diálogo entre pinturas com representações arquitectónicas; objetos tridimensionais com uma dimensão e qualidade arquitectónicas, que podemos explorar fisicamente; e pintura feita diretamente no espaço arquitectónico ou sala de exposições.
Em todos os casos, existe uma necessidade de explorar o potencial transformador da cor na comunicação entre as peças.
Nos lugares ficcionais que represento, a casa surge ainda como exemplo paradigmático de abordagem ao lugar, às vivências pessoais e íntimas e à experiência emocional de habitar, ocupar e utilizar.
