Irene Solà walks along the edge of the territories of representation that are related with the reinterpretation, rereading and reconstruction of the collisions between human relationships, identities and everyday gestures. These marginal territories become spaces where an exploration of critical matters concerning language, the construction of narrative and gender and the complexities of the relationships between people and bodies as well as the limits of intimacy in friendship, love and collaboration is undertaken in this digital and global scene.
Solà’s work uses image (still and moving), language (still as text, in movement as voice), personal and collective imagery, the notion of archive, science, literature and her life experiences. Consequently her projects often involve everything within hand’s reach and everyone who reacts to the questions she poses.
Solà was born in a masia (cottage) in Malla, Catalunya, in 1990. Between 2008 and 2013 she studied Fine Arts at the Universitat de Barcelona and at Listaháskóli Íslands in Reykjavík. In October 2013 she joined the Master in Literature, Film and Visual Culture at the Sussex University of Brighton. In this interdisciplinary investigation, her artistic creations converge with her literary works, along with a keen interest in cinema and moving images. In 2012 Solà received the grant of the City of Vic for Artistic Creation for the production of the second part of the collaborative project that she is developing with the curator and artist settled in Berlin, Toni Sadurní.
The artist has also been awarded a number of prizes in several literary contests, most notably the Amadeu Oller Prize of Poetry with the publication of her first poetry book "Bèstia" (Galerada 2012).
She is also a co-founder of the fanzine of contemporary creation Vols Russos (2011-13), a member of the collective of artists who are responsible of the nomad exhibition project La Ghetto (2010-13) and an active participant in the amateur theatre company La Palangana (2004-13).
Irene Solà voreja territoris de la representació que tenen a veure amb una reinterpretació, relectura i reconstrucció de les col·lisions entre les relacions humanes, les identitats i els gests quotidians. Aquests territoris marginals esdevenen espais on explorar críticament qüestions del llenguatge, de la construcció de narrativitat i de gènere, les complexitats de les relacions entre persones i cossos, els límits de la intimitat en l’amistat i la col·laboració i de l'amor en l'escenari digital i global.
El treball de Solà utilitza la imatge -quieta i en moviment-, el llenguatge -quiet, el text, i en moviment, la veu-, l'imaginari personal i col·lectiu, la idea d'arxiu, la ciència, la literatura i les experiències vitals. En conseqüència els projectes sovint impliquen tot allò que té a l’abast i tot aquell que reacciona davant les preguntes que ella planteja.
Solà neix en una masia de Malla, a Catalunya, el 1990. Entre 2008 i 2013 estudia Belles Arts a la Universitat de Barcelona i a Listaháskóli Íslands de Reykjavík i a l'octubre del 2013 cursa el programa de màster en Literatura, Cinema i Cultura Visual a la Sussex University de Brighton. En aquesta investigació interdisciplinària conflueixen la creació artística i la literària, a més d’un interès punyent pel cinema i la imatge en moviment. L'hivern del 2012 Solà rep la Beca Ciutat de Vic a la Creació Artística per produir la segona part del projecte col·laboratiu que desenvolupa amb el comissari i artista establert a Berlin Toni Sadurní.
L’artista també ha estat premiada en varis certàmens literaris entre els quals destaca el Premi Amadeu Oller de Poesia, amb la publicació del seu primer recull de poemes "Bèstia" (Galerada, 2012).
És cofundadora del fanzine de creació contemporània Vols Russos (2011-13), membre del col.lectiu d'artistes responsables del projecte expositiu nòmada La Ghetto (2010-13) a més de participar activament amb el grup de teatre amateur La Palangana (2004-13).
