Owing to the political structure of Germany, each of the 16 federal states is in charge of supporting culture and conducts its own cultural policy autonomously. For example, every single state in Germany has an Academy of Fine Arts (University of Fine Arts/ Hochschule für bildende Künste).

The JCE Biennial 2013-2015 sets off on a new course, incorporating the city of Figueres as one of the bases for its European tour which will offer the chance for new Catalan visual arts to be seen in the international sphere.

Hungary is participating as a full-right partner at the JCE Biennial for the third time now. Due to the infeasibility of the Young Contemporary Statements pre-selection show, works featured by the six Hungarian artists travelling with the exhibition were chosen by an expert jury made up of curators and critics.

For the last five years the City of Como has been organising  “Co.Co.Co.” the Como Contemporary Contest, to find young emerging artists and to promote their work in the contemporary art world.

In Lithuania, this year’s selection of Jeune Création Européenne 2013/2015 was organized in stages. In November 2012, all young artists of Lithuanian origin, both living in the country and abroad, were informed of the call for applications to participate in the biennale.

Both as a curator and a museum director I have had the privilege to built up a wide experience in ‘scouting’ young talents.
